IKO Industries, Ltd.

IKO Industries, Ltd. is a global leader in the manufacture and supply of residential shingles. Kraun started work on IKO’s new state-of-the-art flagship manufacturing facility and head office in October 2017. Kraun designed and produced the formal electrical drawings for this project, then completed the installation. The buildings required were a 16,937 sq. ft. office space, an 86,165 sq. ft. two-level manufacturing building, a 63,406 sq. ft. warehouse, and a 19,826 sq. ft. warehouse.

The process included visiting an existing IKO facility in Chicago and reviewing plans for a new facility in Texas. Coordination with the other trades, leading the development of 3D BIM drawings, and the ability to complete the work while other buildings remained occupied contributed to the success of this project.

Installation included:

  • Lighting: critical lighting was required in the manufacturing portion of the building.
  • High-Voltage: with a sub-contractor, designed a complete high-voltage system with a substation and associated bus duct connecting to the building’s main 4000-amp switchboard.
  • Power Distribution: interconnection of several electrical rooms and associated sub-services.
  • Emergency Power: designing a complete emergency power system, including a 50kW, 347/600V emergency natural gas generator and a 350kW, 347/600V standby natural gas generator with a 125A automatic transfer switch.
  • Civil Works: designed the high-voltage duct bank, site lighting, power, and security requirements.
  • Fire Alarm: With a supplier, designed and installed a turn-key fire alarm system.
  • Communications system, access control & CCTV
