Preventative maintenance costs less than the failure it prevents.

The cheapest electrical repair is the one you never have to make. Kraun Electric designs and delivers electrical preventative maintenance programs for industrial and commercial facilities across Niagara and Hamilton — keeping your operations running, your team safe, and your costs under control.

The cost of waiting

Electrical failures cost more than the repair itself

Emergency electrical repairs are costly. After-hours labour, expedited parts sourcing and operational downtime can quickly increase the true cost of a failure. Manufacturers may lose production time, while commercial properties face disruption, urgent repair costs and frustrated tenants.

A structured electrical preventative maintenance program changes the math. Most electrical failures show signs, like heat, wear, or degradation, well before becoming unignorable problems. Kraun’s programs schedule licensed electricians to your site to identify signs before they become problems.

The goal is fewer emergencies, lower repair costs, and longer-lasting equipment. Preventative maintenance helps protect your budget, equipment and operations from avoidable disruption.

Programs are customized to each facility and can include any combination of the following services, delivered on a scheduled agreement or individually.

IR thermal imaging for electrical systems

Identify emerging issues before they lead to equipment failures or unplanned downtime.

  • Detect abnormal heat in panels, switchgear and electrical equipment
  • Find loose connections, overloaded components and early-stage deterioration
  • Document findings to support repair priorities and maintenance planning

Breaker and disconnect testing for reliable operation

Confirm critical devices respond correctly before they are needed during a fault or shutdown.

  • Exercise and test breakers and disconnects
  • Identify devices that are worn, seized or operating incorrectly
  • Document results to support maintenance and repair planning

Hands-on inspection of electrical distribution equipment

Uncover visible deterioration and maintenance issues before they lead to equipment failure or downtime.

  • Inspect panels and distribution equipment for wear, corrosion and moisture
  • Identify damaged components, loose connections and potential code concerns
  • Provide photos, documentation and prioritized follow-up recommendations

Arc flash analysis and equipment labelling

Arc flash analysis aligned with OHSA and CSA Z462

  • Calculate incident-energy levels and establish arc flash boundaries
  • Update equipment labels with the required hazard information
  • Provide documentation to support safe-work procedures, PPE selection and electrical safety planning

Accurate single-line drawings for your current electrical system

Keep electrical documentation aligned with the equipment and distribution system in place.

  • Update drawings using Kraun’s in-house CAD capabilities
  • Reflect system changes, additions and equipment replacements
  • Coordinate drawing updates with the arc flash review cycle, where appropriate

Electrical system resiliency and recovery planning

Understand where a single equipment failure could disrupt critical operations.

  • Identify critical electrical components and single points of failure
  • Review recovery priorities and replacement requirements
  • Provide sourcing guidance for obsolete or difficult-to-find parts

Power quality monitoring for electrical system performance

Identify electrical conditions that can affect equipment reliability, energy use and operations.

  • Capture voltage fluctuations, harmonics and load imbalances
  • Investigate nuisance trips and unexplained equipment issues
  • Document findings to support corrective action and maintenance planning

The process

From first conversation to ongoing maintenance

Step 1 — Site Visit and Assessment

We start with a site visit to understand your facility, your equipment, and your uptime requirements. We’ll look at your current systems, ask about past issues and compliance obligations, and build a clear picture of the risks and costs.

Step 2 — Scoped Proposal

Based on the assessment, we put together a maintenance scope that fits your facility and budget — whether that’s a formal contracted program, a targeted service schedule, or a one-time assessment. Pricing is typically a flat annual fee paid in installments after each visit.

Step 3 — Scheduled Visits

We show up when we say we will. Every visit follows a defined scope and ends with a written report — findings, photos, recommendations, and items to watch. You’ll always have a clear picture of your electrical systems and a paper trail ready for your insurer or H&S officer.

Why facility and property managers choose Kraun.

We know your facility

Every visit is documented, and each report stays on file, so returns start quicker. We know your system, history, and what to watch for.

We work around your operation

Maintenance visits are scheduled around your shifts, shutdowns, and critical windows. Our industrial and commercial experience helps us avoid disrupting what we’re there to protect.

Everything is documented

After each visit, you’ll receive a written report with findings, photos, and recommendations for insurers, H&S officers, and property management teams. No more disappearing verbal updates.

Quicker response time

Maintenance customers get priority response from a team that already knows their facility. That’s right – you won’t have to explain your system over and over again to someone who’s never seen it.

That’s how we’ll power your potential.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — and the math is straightforward. Emergency electrical repairs come with after-hours rates, expedited parts sourcing, and the cost of whatever your facility couldn’t do during the outage. A preventative maintenance program identifies problems weeks or months before they become failures — when the fix is a scheduled service call, not an emergency crew. Most facilities find that a structured maintenance program costs significantly less than a single major unplanned repair.

A Kraun preventative electrical maintenance program can include infrared (IR) thermal imaging, breaker and disconnect testing, panel and distribution equipment inspections, arc flash hazard analysis, single line drawing updates, electrical system resiliency reviews, and power quality monitoring. Programs are customized to each facility based on equipment type, operating schedule, compliance requirements, and risk exposure. Facilities in Niagara and Hamilton receive a written report after every visit.

Kraun Electric provides industrial and commercial electrical preventative maintenance programs throughout Niagara and Hamilton. We serve manufacturing plants, food and beverage facilities, commercial buildings, multi-tenant properties, long-term care homes, and institutional facilities. Our offices are in St. Catharines and Hamilton. Call 905-684-6895 or email service@kraun.ca

Yes. In Ontario, arc flash risk assessments are required under the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and CSA Z462, the national standard for workplace electrical safety. CSA Z462 recommends a full re-assessment every five years or after significant changes to the electrical system. Kraun conducts arc flash studies, calculates incident energy levels, establishes arc flash boundaries, and provides updated arc flash labelling for equipment.

Annual infrared thermal imaging is the minimum recommendation for most industrial and commercial facilities. High-demand operations — such as manufacturing plants running continuous shifts or food processing facilities with large refrigeration loads — may benefit from quarterly or semi-annual scans. IR results also support insurance coverage and health and safety compliance documentation.

Yes. Kraun works with facility and property managers across Niagara and Hamilton to maintain the electrical systems in commercial buildings, multi-tenant properties, and institutional campuses. Programs are structured around the building’s complexity, tenancy mix, and compliance obligations. Our team coordinates visits to minimize disruption and provides full documentation for insurance and property management records.

Power quality monitoring tracks voltage fluctuations, harmonics, load imbalances, and other anomalies in a facility’s electrical supply. These issues are often invisible but can shorten equipment lifespan, cause nuisance trips, and increase energy costs. Kraun deploys monitoring equipment, analyzes the data, and delivers findings with recommendations.

Kraun builds maintenance schedules around your operation — your shifts, your shutdown windows, and your critical production periods. We are experienced working in live industrial and commercial environments and coordinate closely with facility and operations managers to ensure visits cause the least disruption to your operation.
